EGOISM formed from the teenage connection of Scout Eastment and Olive Rush, when their heated discussions about music became a drive to create something together. Their introspective lyrics, pristine pop melodies and shoegaze influence quickly became a distinctive sound as the duo cut their teeth and assembled a band in Sydney’s thriving inner-west scene.
After years of packed DIY gigs and home recordings, in 2018 EGOISM came of age to release their debut single ‘Sorry’. The sparkling, driving dream pop ‘anti-gaslighting anthem’ landed the duo their first triple j plays as well as high rotation on Unearthed and Sydney’s FBi Radio.
After steadily gaining a live reputation supporting bands such as Last Dinosaurs, I Know Leopard and Phantastic Ferniture, EGOISM began 2019 with their unmistakably self-assured follow up single ‘Enemies’. Self recorded and produced in a single bedroom, ‘Enemies’ is lush, catchy guitar pop at its best, a double time ode to existential dread and isolation. ‘Enemies’ quickly received triple j spot rotation, and garnered an Independent Artist of the Week accolade from FBi radio.
The third single from EGOISM, ‘What Are We Doing?’ arrived in August 2019. Through bittersweet harmonies and an explosive chorus, Scout and Olive navigate growing up together, making peace through admitting imperfections and taking things as they come. The track was immediately added to triple J spot rotation and the duo rode the hype into Bigsound 2019, where their showcases drew packed crowds with lines of people out the door.
With a string of success now behind them, Scout and Olive have set their sights firmly in the future, promising only to continue growing at the same explosive pace.
